Thomaston is located in mid-coast Maine and in the 1800's was a major ship building center. The original downtown reflects this former prosperity in the architecture. I was drawn to all of the orangy-reds in the brick of all the buidings and settled on this view looking towards downtown with the firehouse on the right. Throughout the day while I was painting, the guys in the firehouse had to regularly check on my progress - they were very interested in the details in the pickup trucks. One of the things about painting on location is that you really become a part of the scene, observing all of the comings and goings of the people and vehicles moving around you.
