This was painted in a small town in North Central Maryland. I was driving around looking for something that interested me, and this scene caught my eye. I liked the contrast between the odd shape of the old gas station sign and the very geometric forms of the houses on the left side of the road. This was early fall, and colors were just starting to change. Interestingly enough, an elderly woman walked across the street from the house on the left and struck up a conversation. She found out I was from Baltimore, and told me she had grown up in Baltimore and went to high school at Western, It turns out, she was a classmate of my mother from the 1936 graduating class of Western High School - small world!
