This cottage was the first artist's studio built on Monhegan Island by Eric Hudson in the early 1900's. I had painted this cottage several years ago, and had the opportunity to meet Hudson's daughter, who gave me a tour of the house and all of the paintings by both her and her father. This particular painting was started in the late afternoon, and the high-keyed light made all of the colors intense. The chartreuse in the grass really contrasts with the cool colors in the house. In the background, Manana glows in the setting sun.
